Our Mission

At The Read to Recovery Foundation, we spark a lifelong love of reading in children undergoing medical treatment in hospitals by gifting them new, beautifully crafted books filled with magic, wonder, and adventure. We don't just donate books; we select colorful, fun, and enchanting stories that light up their faces and transport them to imaginative worlds.

By stocking hospital libraries with these special books and allowing children to keep books to take home, we aim to provide not just comfort, but inspiration and joy during their healing journey. With every story, we strive to create a world where every child, no matter their journey, can find wonder and courage in the pages they turn.

"It’s not just about giving children books; it’s about giving them stories that spark their curiosity, inspire their imagination, and remind them that no matter where they come from or what they face, they can always find hope and connection in the pages of a book."Jennine Husdell, Founder and Executive Director, The Read to Recovery Foundation

The Healing Power of Books

How Reading Fuels Recovery and Academic Success in Kids

Improved literacy leads to academic success

Early exposure to reading not only helps children develop strong literacy skills but can also contribute to better academic performance. For kids missing school due to treatment, access to books can keep their minds active and engaged.

Reading supports cognitive and emotional development

Studies have shown that reading from an early age promotes brain development, improves language skills, and strengthens emotional intelligence, all essential for children coping with challenging situations.

Books provide a psychological escape

Research indicates that engaging with stories can help reduce stress and anxiety. For children facing medical treatments, a good book offers a moment of relief and a way to process emotions indirectly.
Together, these benefits make reading an invaluable tool for both healing and growth during challenging times.
